Why KCIS?| 国际部家长:为何我们会选择无锡国王学院外籍人员子女学校?

International School

G2 INT Elise Cruz& G4 INT Sophia Cruz’s mom

So, for us, we found that KCIS was really the best school in the city. We've been really impressed with the quality of the teaching staff. The teachers have been great with our daughters. We've also been really pleased with how the administration is run, how the school is run in general. We are really appreciative of all the things that our children have on offer here. So, the fact is that, it's a large school in that there is a bilingual section in the school means that an international section is able to have a lot available. Our girls have great opportunities for after school activities. The facilities are very nice. There are many, many things that are very happy about here.

So we are talking again about one of the things we find the greatest here is the excellence of the teaching staff. We have been really pleased and really happy how they have assisted our daughters. They both have some learning disabilities, some dyslexia, some attention deficit, and the staff has been really great about noticing things and working with them. And we're really happy that our children, because of the support that's been given, they've been able to thrive here, driving their learning.

And not only that, but they still enjoy school. So having these challenges, it might be very easy for things to get frustrating and to not like this situation. But they're still very happy here. They like their teachers, their classmates. They're happy to come to school, and so there's nothing better than that we can think of for having an education.

So as a westerner living in China, this is something that we struggle with, sometimes really feel not to worry so much about all the tons and tons of homework and extra classes and those kinds of things. For us, we do things at school, we keep up with our school work, but then it's okay to have downtime and it's wonderful. We love it when our kids just play and don't have to worry about so many things. Try to spend time with your children and read a lot to your children. Those are the things that we try and cooperate in our lives.

We first came to Wuxi and we visited a bunch of different international schools and the thing that really stood out to us for KCIS was their emphasis on outdoor play, especially with our kindergartner. This was going to be his first experience with school, and being outdoors and being little play outdoors and explore was really important to us. That was the first thing that really stood out to us, so that was really impressive. Their outdoor space is really impressive, and the ability for the kids to explore and play was really impressive.

The second thing that really stood out for both the international school as well as the kindergarten was when we were on our tours, we met the principals, but then the principals joined and started leading the tour. So we met Amy in the kindergarten in the hallway, just chatting with her. And then she joined our tour and finished it for us, and she took the time out of her day. I'm sure she had one hundred other things she should have been doing, but she took the time out of her day to make our family feel welcome, to answer our questions, to answer questions we didn't even know we had. It was really apparent when we walk through the school that the students knew who she was and they really enjoyed her. So that was really impressive to us. We didn't necessarily get that at other campuses.

The other thing was when we went to the international school. Then we met Mr. Sherring. He was walking down the hallway and we met him. And then he also took the time out of his day to show our family around and to get to know our soon to be third grader, finding out that he really enjoyed soccer football here and took him across the street and showed of their facilities, which was really impressive for our third grader. So they just found ways to connect our students and their particular needs, which was very impressive for us. Not only were they interested in our students, but they are also interested in my husband and I as a couple. They took time to connect us to the international community in Wuxi, which was a big deal to get to know other people that are living in China. And so that was just like an extra step that they took, which was very impressive for us. So those two or three things really kind of turned our hearts toward KCIS.

About six weeks after we started school, there was a schoolwide Christmas bazaar that had hosted the international school and the bilingual school and the kindergarten. So all of the schools combined, and we went as a family, and I didn't really know what to expect. But within just several minutes of being there, my kids were off playing with other students that they knew, other staff that I had not even met yet. They're coming up and introducing themselves to my family because they knew my kids, and so I could see from just being in school for six weeks that they were really engaged in, like they really knew the people that were at school, they had already made friends. Staff really knew who my kids were, and that was really comforting, and that really made a difference in mine. Okay, you made the right choice to come here because they're already connected and have formed a community, which was great. Again, the international community was a good connection point for us, and we only got that through KCIS. So it was really great to make friends outside of school. But that also have children in this school. So just getting connected to the international community was a big thing, as well as just seeing how quick their kids form friendships and got to know the staff pretty quickly.

South Korean

International School

G2 INT Andy&G1 INT Annie’s Mom

In 2018, my children had studied in KCIS for one semester. Later, our family returned to South Korea due to my husband's work. I came to Wuxi again in September 2020. There are two reasons why I choose KCIS:

One is that although this is an international school with English as its main focus, it also provides a full language environment for learning Chinese. For Andy and Annie, they have never learned Chinese before, so they have no foundation. But now they can simply listen, speak, read and write through one Chinese class every day. Besides, through co-curricular activity classes, they can fully understand Chinese culture, which is very attractive to me.

Secondly, the teachers here are very professional and enthusiastic. In order to help the children keep up with the learning progress of the class as soon as possible, the school also provides EAL courses for the children with weak English foundation.

At present, Andy is still laying a solid foundation of English through EAL courses. I also communicate with Annie's homeroom teacher about the child's study very often. According to the teacher's feedback, I am able to supervise my children's study at home.

After a semester, I can obviously feel that the English level of my children has been improved, and they have developed the learning habit of finishing homework independently. They also set the goal of learning Chinese and English well as soon as possible. As a parent, I feel very gratified when I hear children express that they love coming to school.

Since both of my children are in the lower grades of the International School, sometimes they still rely on their parents' help. Therefore, in my opinion, the lower the grade, the more parents should pay attention to the children's learning, and often give them affirmation and encouragement, I believe that the children will also enjoy the fun of learning and growing up.

South Korean

International School

G2 INT Chaewon’s Mom

We attended the school open day by chance and were attracted by the beautiful campus environment and high-end school facilities. Later we applied for an opportunity to experience the class, students and teachers are full of enthusiasm which deeply touched my child's heart. My daughter told me that she particularly likes KCIS library classes and Chinese class. She wishes she can continue learning here.

In addition, through communication with the head of international school, we knew that

KCIS implements small-scale teaching which is even smaller than the average, which is very attractive to me.

Although my daughter has also studied in international schools before, while as we are currently living in China, we also very hope that children can learn both English and Chinese well, speak Chinese fluently. Contrary to our expectations, due to the lack of Chinese interspersed in previous school, all communication was in English, children are not interested in Chinese at all. Since Chaewon transfered to KCIS, through a daily Chinese classes and Chinese communication with classmates, she has an increasing interests to Chinese classes, even outside the campus, Chaewon began to speak Chinese occasionally and expressed her love towards Chinese.

When we first came to China, we consulted many international schools and learned about the international school curriculum system, we found that most international schools have no allocated textbooks, the school curriculum itself is a teaching guidance. In Korea, teachers teach according to textbooks. So many South Korean parents have a lot of doubts and concerns about the curriculum at international schools. However, KCIS is different, in order to reduce parents' concerns about international courses, teachers will send the content of the courses to be learned next week to parents every Friday week ahead. In this way, not only parents can understand the content of the school teaching, they can also give their children appropriate support at home. I think that is very good.

Malaysian

ICC

G10 ICC Chole‘s Mom

Hello everyone, we are a family from Malaysia, we have been in Wuxi for 18 years, my daughter Chole is in 10th grade in KCIS, she is my third child, the youngest daughter.

KCIS is a new school, it has a very strong team of faculty, first-class school facilities, and the campus environment is very beautiful which is quite attractive to me. The most attractive point to me is because KCIS offers A-level and IB course, my daughter is in the 10th grade, so her choice of high school curriculum is very important. Another very significant point is the co-curricular activities which is also called CCA, there are diverse choices for children so that they can learn more life skills except from the academic knowledge which also attracts me a lot.

This is the third year with KCIS. The biggest change is that Chole was inspired a lot by her teachers including foreign teachers and Chinese teachers with overseas study, she is getting to know the direction of her future choice, the direction of further education, the countries she would like to go. She is very firm in where she is going. We did not expect her to have such a persistence. We cannot guarantee that she will certainly reach the goal, but she works very hard during the period, she takes her initiative to study which also let her become a self-disciplined person, this is a big change. Studying in such a good environment is quite a happy thing for my daughter.

For each child, they have different advantages and disadvantages. In our family, three children is very obvious. I think that as long as we firmly believe a school curriculum, just let our children develop their own orientation. Studying in a good environment, they will all be in full bloom. Although each child is not the same, they will all have a good development. I think we as parents should recognize the direction of a school, As long as you believe it, don't doubt it, once you doubt it, and you'll have a lot of discontent when you join it. Children will also suffer from the whole learning process. So I personally think that no matter what environment your child in, as long as you know the direction of your children and your children have a clear goal, you do not have to worry about what he will do in the future, because this is not something we can control, especially now when we have the challenge of the epidemic, everything is out of expectation. So it's important for us to let our child learn how to be resilient to some of the setbacks they may face.

Malaysian

International School

G5 INT Doody& KG2 Harence’s dad

We had a few choices to choose from. KCIS has the most complete facilities and it offers UK based syllabus which I personally more familiar with. So it was rather an easy choice for us to make.

Doody has now become more confident about himself. He is not shy of presenting his idea. We have seen the vast improvement in his English ability. Also the classes now consists of students from all over the place. This allows Doody the chance to learn about others’ culture. The system the school practices now—— no textbook system and the “controlled” amount of homework means that they will have less pressure for the family and students. This actually allows him more time to pursue his own personal interest. We also like the fact that the size of the class is not big. Teachers are able to give students sufficient attention.

I personally like the way the parent teacher conference is being conducted, where the children is present himself. Teachers are able to give honest and fair assessment. Also, the vast variety of CCA being offered means parents can rely less on the third party classes. You do not need to send them out for swimming, tennis or any other activities, because it is offered by school now.

I think it's very important for each family to find the right system for themselves. There's no best system. So, for us in KCIS, we think we have found just about the right system because we are all happy now.
