Co-Curricular Activities at
KCIS
2022-2023
This school year saw our Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme provide an opportunity for our students to choose from many options. In semester 2, 161 unique types of activities were on offer, providing 427 different choices when considering that many were offered to different age groups and on multiple days.
A school's CCA programme is an essential part of a student's holistic education. CCAs include sports, clubs, academic support sessions, and events, and they offer students opportunities to explore their interests and develop their skills beyond the classroom.
At KCIS, the CCA programme is designed to provide a wide range of activities for students of all ages and interests. From music to sports, drama to debate, the programme offers something for everyone.
The School has a CCA sports programme that includes a variety of sports, such as basketball, football, volleyball, baseball, tennis, and swimming. Students can join school teams and practice with their coaches and teammates. This year students were able to compete against other schools in the region once again, which not only enhances their physical fitness but also teaches them teamwork and sportsmanship.
In addition to sports, the school offers a variety of clubs and societies for students to join. For example, students who love music can join the school band, choir, or orchestra. Those who are interested in drama can participate in the school's theatre productions, while students who are passionate about writing can join the school's magazine club.
Co-Curricular Activities
The school's CCA programme also includes events that promote socialization and community involvement. This year, the school played host to a TEDx Youth event. The central theme of this year's event was "Landing from Paradox". Our speakers provided us with an invitation to explore their personal paradoxes through their adventures and experiences, and they also illuminated us with their approach of "landing" in the paradox rather than soaring upwards in it. For upper school students, this year continued the customary practice of providing students the support and planning to earn their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Another event that the school gives students the opportunity to take part in through our CCA programme is the World Scholar's Cup. In the regional round of the World Scholar's Cup in Nanjing, all students in our WSC CCA received trophies and/or medals. They have qualified to move on to the global round, which will be held in Xiamen.
As part of our CCA programme this year, students prepared for five separate Expressive Arts productions. In our academic CCAs, they prepared for several competitions such as the Australian Mathematics Competition and the University of Waterloo Euclid Competitions. Our students consistently do very well in these competitions, and we expect them to achieve highly again this year. There are too many options in our CCA programme to list every one of them in this article, although each one is an important part of what we offer and deserves to be highlighted.
Overall, the co-curricular activities programme at KCIS is comprehensive and provides a wide range of activities for students to choose from. Whether students are interested in sports, music, drama, or community service, there is something for everyone. The programme not only enhances students' skills and knowledge but also helps them develop into well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the challenges of the future.
