Mental Health Awareness Month Highlights

This October, KCIS has been actively engaging students, parents, and staff in a series of meaningful initiatives to promote awareness, empathy, and self-care as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

This year’s theme, “Healthy Minds in a Digital World”, highlights the importance of maintaining balance, mindfulness, and genuine connection in an age where technology shapes much of our daily lives. By helping students and families reflect on how digital habits impact mood, focus, and relationships, we aim to nurture healthier ways to use technology for learning, creativity, and wellbeing.

Part.01 Mental Health Awareness Week: Everyone Deserves Good Mental Health

On Friday, 10th October, our school community came together to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Day with “Wear It Green Day”, held alongside our annual Student Council elections. The Student Council serves as an important part of our supportive community, offering students a safe and trustworthy channel to voice their ideas and concerns. To show their solidarity and commitment to mental health awareness, students and staff proudly wore green - the colour that symbolises mental wellbeing - throughout the day.

Throughout the remainder of Mental Health Awareness Week, there were fun and relaxing activities for all students and teachers: “Mindful Karaoke”, “Keep Calm and Dance”, “Mindful Doodling” and “Cuddly Toy Day”.

Discussions, reflections, and creative activities,  encouraged students to take time to understand their emotions, support one another, and nurture positive habits for wellbeing.

Part.02 Mental Health Field Trip to Three Kingdoms City

Learning outside the classroom took on a new dimension as students visited Three Kingdoms City, where they explored history, teamwork, and the calming power of nature. The trip offered a refreshing reminder of how shared experiences and new environments can boost mental wellness.

Part.03 Student Mental Health Surveys

Students in Grades 4–5 participated in mental health surveys during their PSHE lessons. These surveys provided an opportunity for young learners to share their thoughts and feelings, helping our school better understand and support their wellbeing needs.

Part.04 Junior High Mental Health Workshop: Help-Seeking

Led by our Social and Emotional Counsellor, Ms Gao, this workshop guided Junior High students in understanding how and when to ask for help – for themselves or for others. It reinforced the importance of open communication and helped normalise conversations around mental health challenges.

Part.05 Parent Art Workshop

Parents also need space to be able to “unplug” from their devices and take time to relax and engage with others. Our Parent Art Workshop, hosted by KCIS Art teacher, Ms Farah, invited parents to experience art as a form of mindfulness and emotional expression. This creative session enabled parents to disconnect from their devices and fostered community connection, reminding us that self-care and creativity are valuable tools for mental health.

Throughout this month, every activity has reminded us that caring for our mental health is just as important as caring for our physical health. As a community, we continue to build a culture of compassion, awareness, and mutual support. We are stronger together!
