To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.

As spring begins to unfold, KCIS continues to place care, connection and community at the centre of school life. This academic year has brought together thoughtful staff development, purposeful student leadership, and meaningful PSHE experiences, each contributing to a nurturing, supportive environment where students can feel secure and understood.
01 PSHE in Practice: Supporting the Whole Child
Through our imbedded PSHE programme, students are given structured time each week to explore the challenges and opportunities of growing up. Recent sessions have focused on emotional awareness, relationships and personal responsibility. These are quiet but important moments in the week where students can reflect, ask questions, and develop the language and confidence to navigate their world with greater understanding. We strive to prepare our students today for tomorrow.
02 Marking the Season: Spring and the Day of Happiness
The arrival of spring has been gently felt across the school, bringing a renewed sense of light and possibility. This was reflected in our recognition of the International Day of Happiness, where students engaged in simple, meaningful activities centred on kindness, gratitude and connection. These moments, though small, help to shape a culture where wellbeing is recognised as something to be actively nurtured, and a senseof community flourishes.
03 Student Voice in Action: Leadership and Belonging
Student leadership continues to play an important role in building a sense of belonging across the school.
In Primary, the Student Council tapped into our vast vats of talent by hosting the KCIS Talent Show – an event that encouraged students to step forward, share their interests, and support one another. This project was about more than students showcasing their natural gifts and hard-earned skills: it was about bringing the school community together in celebration and camaraderie.
In Junior High, the Student Council took on a new structure this academic year, forming sub-committees to focus on key areas: Student Wellbeing, Events and Activities, and Conduct Crew. The councillors have been extremely active, hosting a number of events and activities, such as the on going “Feel-Good Fridays”, “Pajama Day” and the recent “Rock-Paper-Scissors” interclass competition.
These activities have all focused on preserving and nurturing student wellbeing while building a deeper sense of belonging through a stronger, more active and inclusive school community. The addition of a Student Council notice board in the main common area has created a visible and accessible platform for ideas and updates, while ongoing projects aim to strengthen connections across year groups and give students a greater sense of ownership within their community.
04 Investing in Our People: Staff Pastoral Development
Strong pastoral care begins with reflective and well-supported staff. As all KCIS staff are integral members of our pastoral care team, it is important that we continue to seek opportunities to grow and share and enhance our skills. Our ongoing Pastoral Professional Development sessions have made full use of the expertise within our own community, creating space for colleagues to share practical strategies and lived experience. These sessions are grounded, collaborative and purposeful, ensuring that our response to student needs remains consistent, informed and compassionate.
At KCIS, pastoral care is woven into the everyday experience of school life. Through steady staff development, intentional curriculum time, and meaningful opportunities for student voice, we continue to create an environment where students feel supported – not just in moments of need, but as a consistent and reassuring presence throughout their school journey.
