Literacy Week 2026 cast a magical spell across the school, as both Junior High and Primary students embarked on a two-week journey through the theme of Magical and Mysterious Fiction. From enchanted wardrobes to puzzling mysteries, the event brought stories to life while strengthening essential literacy skills in engaging and creative ways.
Throughout the week, students immersed themselves in carefully selected texts, exploring rich narratives through reading, discussion, and reflection. In classrooms, literacy came alive as learners developed their abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Primary students eagerly created their own magical worlds, designing imaginative settings, inventing creatures, and sharing their ideas using descriptive language. Meanwhile, Junior High students tackled more complex challenges, analysing clues in mystery texts, crafting their own suspenseful stories inspired by their reading.
Beyond traditional literacy skills, the week strongly promoted 21st century competencies. Students demonstrated creativity through world-building and storytelling, critical thinking in solving mysteries, and collaboration during group tasks such as Reader’s Theatre and investigation challenges. Communication skills flourished as students presented their ideas, performed scripts, and shared reflections. Digital literacy also played a key role, particularly in the exciting Book Trailer Competition, where students combined technology and storytelling to create compelling promotional videos.
The whole school community came together through special events that added to the excitement. Book Character Dress-Up Day transformed the campus into a parade of beloved literary figures, sparking conversations and inspiring reading choices. “Book Sunbathing,” organised by the library team, encouraged students to relax with a good book in a calm and inviting environment, reinforcing the joy of reading for pleasure.
Literacy Week 2026 was more than just a celebration of books—it was a dynamic learning experience that nurtured imagination, built confidence, and developed lifelong skills. As the week concluded, one thing was clear: the magic of storytelling continues to inspire, connect, and empower every learner.
